What was the ICC T20 World Cup 2026?
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 was the 10th edition of the International Cricket Council’s premier Twenty20 tournament, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from 7 February to 8 March 2026. It was the first time Sri Lanka had hosted a major ICC men’s tournament since the 2012 T20 World Cup, and India’s second time hosting the T20 World Cup after 2016.
The tournament featured 20 teams — an expansion from the 2024 edition — competing across 55 matches in a format that included a group stage, Super 8s, semi-finals and a final. India entered as defending champions after their 2024 triumph and successfully defended their title, defeating New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad to become the first team in history to win consecutive T20 World Cups.
The tournament was notable for several historic moments, including Italy’s debut appearance, Scotland replacing Bangladesh after their late withdrawal, and Pakistan playing all their matches in Sri Lanka under the ongoing India-Pakistan neutral venue agreement. You can also follow India’s bilateral series including the India vs Afghanistan T20I series and the India vs West Indies ODI series for more international cricket action.

India’s T20 World Cup Record
India are now the most successful team in T20 World Cup history with three titles (2007, 2024, 2026), becoming the first side to defend the crown. Their 2026 campaign was near-flawless — unbeaten through the group stage and Super 8s — peaking with a composed chase in the final. The 2007 triumph under MS Dhoni launched the T20 revolution in India, the 2024 win in Barbados ended an 11-year ICC trophy drought, and the 2026 title made India the first back-to-back champions.
